Having spent most of my youth traveling with my family, living in numerous countries and gaining an astoundingly diverse education, I came home to Canada for my university career and earned an Honours BA in English and History from The University Of Western Ontario. Since the only thing to be done with majors like those is teaching, it was lucky that this was the profession in which I had always been interested. I completed my Bachelor of Education at Queens University and, following my soon-to-be husband to Toronto, discovered no teaching jobs whatsoever. IN need of a job, I decided I could join the workforce selling stuff: copiers, mailing machines, a private school education, graphic design, and the list goes on. When a teaching position finally came available it was only 11% of a job but I took it and happily went broke. Yet while teaching is my passion, when my husband and I saw the chance to start our own business – allowing me to work from home and balance the roles of motherhood and earner – I gave up being an educator and began bookkeeping and paper shuffling. When our son was diagnosed at the age of 18 months I realized how lucky we had been to find a way for me to be home. We now have three kids, another boy and a daughter, and a schedule requiring me not only to book keep, but to chauffer, nag, educate and parent. Having survived years navigating the labyrinth of Autism, I also spend some of my time guiding other families on the journey to their children.
